Workers from Pallipalayam town comprising mostly of Carpenters and Blue collar textile workers camp in nearby towns as well as erode for weeks to attend their jobs. During their stay, the workers used to prepare this dish for their consumption, as it needed minimum ingredients to have some food on the go. Since this dish originated from the people of Pallipalayam, it is named as Pallipalayam Chicken.

As it originated from local workers who had no special cooking instruments or expertise, the dish requires very little ingredients, and is easy to make but is lip-smacking delicious

Recipe

  • Grind shallots and garlic in a blender until it’s a coarse paste.
  • Heat oil and add in the chopped dried red chilies. Add in the ground shallot garlic paste and fry for a minute.
  • Add in the chicken, curry leaves, turmeric, and salt. Keep the flame on low and keep frying the chicken for 30-40 minutes. The chicken should be totally dry after 40 minutes. Once the chicken has become fully roasted and the dish is dry, switch off the flame.
  • Garnish with fresh curry leaves and the coriander leaves. The dish tastes super delicious with the culmination of spice’s provincial characteristics creating a unique blend of flavors, it’s that one of a kind flavor which is “both tangy and spicy but will make you ask for more”.
